782/1711 Restoration
Getting started on my 1711 that I'm calling a 782 which it will be since I'm painting it RED! I started by taking off the fenders and then broke the rearend away from the frame. I'm surprised that even though is a 85 model, CCC already started to cheapen them up. What I mean by that is aluminum rearend, no protection between the battery and the rear tires and also the starter seloniod is right above the left rear tire where there is no protection. Going to try to take the engine out tomorrow![You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ive got a good rear hear with nuttin to put it in. Also seeing its just a regular rear, could you not just bolt in a CI rear, and sell the fine splined rear?

I took the engine out of it today. That was a real PAIN, all the bolts were tough all the way off. Also took the rear tires off the rear end. Tomorrow I'm going to pressure wash everything so hopefully by friday night or monday night I'll be able to paint the black (rear end, front axle and tower) Pics later tonight

It could be worse, the 2072 I got from Duke, my youngest son Danny, age 8 took the bolts out with no problem, cause they were all loose.

Is that dirt in the air filter housing? If so this may not be good. Let me know if you need parts off this alum case I have here, I dont have much in it so I wont want much for them.
Yea and he was running the tractor with the loose eng and the bad trans, he told everyone that everything was tight, BS!

The pic of the engine is the KT17 I pulled out of it that has a hole in the block. Yeah there is dirt everywhere! I have a Mag 18 I'm putting in it though! Don't know if I am just going to take parts off it and srape it or what.
Re: 782/1711 Restoration
I pressure washed the frame, took the front axle off and sanded the frame today. Tomorrow night I'm going to paint the frame RED! Pics tomorrow!

LOL Scotts, weather its the Murry version, or the deere, JUNK! I try not to even work on them at the shop, but the girl behind the counter will take in anything.

Re: 782/1711 Restoration
Well I tried to paint the frame tonight. Started fine but then the paint started to run like crazy. So I went ahead and put 1 good coat on and it ran some more. I'll let it set for about 2 weeks and then wet sand it and try to paint it again. Next week's project will be to clean up the rearend and front axle and paint those, and if I get around to it I'll pull the Mag 18 out of the 1811 parts tractor, put a new oil pan gasket on it and maybe even paint it. Here's pics [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I wouldn't bother replacing the oil pan gasket. There is no oil pan.
Looks great though!

I wonder where the oil is coming from then?
Re: 782/1711 Restoration
Most likely one of the crank seals. The seals can be pulled with a drywall screw. When you replace them, run a bead of rtv around the outer edge of the seal and replace the breather. Pressure has to be building up somewhere and the breather us the onky place that might be blocked to build it. Or at least it's the cheapest problem. The alternative is blow-by and you don't want that.

Re: 782/1711 Restoration
Well I finally got some more done on the 782. Last friday I repainted the frame again. Yesterday I fixed the oil leak on the Mag 18. Turns out the PO lost the oil plug and put some redneck pipe deal in it and that was leaking. Luckily the threads were still good though. I took the oil plug from the bad KT II put it in the Mag 18 and put some oil in it. I checked it today and it is not leaking any. Good deal!!! Today I started painting the front axle and a few other parts but ran out of paint. Here's some pics tho. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
